The University

Missouri State University-West Plains is the two-year, open-admission campus of the Missouri State University System.


West Plains is a city of 12,000 located approximately 100 miles southeast of Springfield in southern Missouri.


More than 2,200 students are enrolled in both part-time and full-time studies. Approximately 57 percent are traditional students.

Small Class Size

The average class size is 18.

Financial Aid

Ninety-three percent of degree-seeking students receive some form of financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans and work-study programs).


For the 2013-2014 academic year, in-state tuition and fees are $3,720 for full-time enrollment (based on 15 credit hours per semester at $114 per credit hour plus required fees). Per-credit hour costs may differ for specialized courses, including online, nursing and respiratory therapy.

A+ Program

Missouri's A+ Scholarship Program provides funds to graduates of A+ designated high schools to cover the costs of tuition and common fees at participating two-year colleges and vocational programs. Graduates certified by their high school as A+ eligible can use these benefits at Missouri State-West Plains.

Student Life

The University offers plenty of fun activities and helpful services, including student organizations, athletics, fitness center, health and counseling services, food services, student center, pool, bookstore and recreation center.

Academic Services

Students will find a variety of resources, including academic support, advisement, tutoring, honors program, job placement, library and study abroad programs.

Mountain Grove Campus

The Associate of Arts in General Studies degree is offered at the extended campus in Mountain Grove.

Online Campus

Students may choose from a growing list of online courses, which offer convenience and flexibility.

Campus Safety

Missouri State-West Plains adheres to a set of policies to maintain a safe and secure learning environment and foster a sense of community and public accountability. Resources available include the Missouri State Alert System, evening safety officers, a new on-campus storm shelter and emergency procedure posters located throughout the campus.
