Why should I get an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree?

The Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree includes a 42-hour general education core, 12-hour teacher education core and 8 hours of electives or other institutional requirements.

Students who earn an AAT degree at Missouri State-West Plains have the opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Education at participating four-year transfer institutions in the state. AAT students will receive consistent treatment in accordance with Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education’s Credit Transfer Policy and Principles of Best Practice.

The AAT degree allows students interested in teacher education to begin that process at Missouri State-West Plains. This degree will be helpful to students who transfer into secondary education or elementary education programs.
