It's also a new semester and with it came more duties for me as the Student Government Association President. Just two weeks ago, I was able to attend a 'Meet and Greet' at the Chancellor's house with the Board of Governors and some prominent community members. The Board of Governors are individuals who together make decisions about the Missouri State University System. Now, this would make most people nervous, and believe me, I was quite nervous at the beginning. Then as I met the board members one-by-one, I began to realize they are people just like me. They were all so approachable, friendly, and nice. I could tell by the questions they asked that they are really concerned with the students' satisfaction at Missouri State University-West Plains.
The following day, I presented at the Board of Governors' formal meeting to discuss what Student Government Association has been doing. As I walked to the podium, I was greeted with smiles and warm welcomes. I informed the Board of the school's recent activites such as volunteering work with Habitat for Humanity and community events like Trunk-or-Treat at Halloween. At the luncheon afterward many of the Board were interested in more of what I had to say and spoke highly of the direction our campus and it's students are taking toward servicing not only the students and faculty, but also the community.
Overall, it was an amazing experience to be a part of. I would have never in my wildest dreams ever thought that the people who make all the major decisions at this university would actually be concerned with what I had to say, and I know if they met any other student passing by, they would care what he or she would have to say as well. It just goes to show that MSU-WP and the Missouri State University system Board of Governors are really concerned about the students who attend and try to provide them the best education possible.
