Like the speed of light is a constant in the universe, the universal gas constant can be measured in the lab. Students will use lab apparatus to measure “R”=PV/nT. Instructor: Dr. Bill Wagner, Missouri State University-West Plains Professor of Chemistry.

See and feel how the Union and Confederate Troops lived in the Ozarks during the Civil War. What they ate, their clothing and weaponary are some of the demonstrations at the outdoor encampment. Instructors: Kevin Smith is an Art Teacher at West Plains Middle School. Dan Keller is a small business owner and coordinator of Marine Corps Legacy Museum. Both are community historians and members of Ozark Mountain Long Rifles.
Capture the tactics and learn the drills that the soldiers used here in the Ozarks during the Civil War at the outdoor encampment. Students will learn fingerprint identification, investigative questioning, deduction reasoning and other techniques used to solve crimes. Instructors: Lt. Gary Lambe and Investigator Joby Hoopes with the Howell County Sheriff’s Department.

The Lord and Lady are away! It’s party time in the castle, Medieval European style. We always think of history as being boring, well that’s a nasty rumor. Learn about the valuable information available on the Internet along with mypage and internet safety. Create a mypage, discuss social networking and visit sites that provide games and information on how to protect yourself on the Internet. Students will learn how to prepare simple healthy foods they can make for themselves and their families. Learn about food safety as well as how to operate kitchen equipment properly. Instructor: Nena Kimball, Nutrition Program Associate with the University of Missouri Extension Office.

Rewrite your favorite fairy tale and watch for the possibilities your imagination can bring. Students will end this class with a published story. Instructor: Alexandra Graham, Missouri State University-West Plains Writing Specialist.
What’s a drum circle? Study the basic rhythm patterns and gain experience on drums and mallet instruments. Students will also be given a background on ethnic instruments. Instructor: Autumn Nicks, performs with numerous organizations throughout the greater Los Angeles area and has used her talents at UCLA’s summer music theatre camps, accompanying students from all over the world as they develop their own musical skills, and most recently has performed with the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra as a guest pianist.

You (and your marbles) have the potential to hang in mid-air, take sharp turns and seemingly fly off the track while riding on roller coasters all because of physics. A complement to “History of Ye Old Party” course, learn a little about mixing it up in a different way. It is the 14th century’s answer to video games. What would you do if your pet was injured or stopped breathing? This session will teach you basic first aid techniques for your pet, such as rescue breathing, making a splint and muzzling your pet. Instructor: Jenny Flatt is a Youth Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Office.

This class is designed to teach children the self confidence to oppose a dangerous situation, rather than to go quietly with a malicious adult. Instructor: Jessica Collins, a 4th degree black belt who has 30 years of karate experience, spending 20 of those teaching self defense for women and children, adult and child karate, and women’s kickboxing.
