Shielding and Social Distancing Guidelines

Shielding Guidelines

In response to COVID-19 the West Plains campus has adapted the guidelines developed by Planning, Design and Construction that are similar to strategies currently implemented at most retail establishments in our community. The intent of these guidelines is to standardize the University and Campus’ response providing as much protection to the campus community via the following method:

Location and Methodology

Locations on campus are being classified into three categories as follows:

Category 1:

Category 1 are locations on campus where close frequent contact and interactions occur between two individuals. In conjunction with this frequent contact there is also a frequent exchange of paper documents, credit/debit cards or cash transactions. Shielding will be required to be installed at these identified locations executed via two subcategories:

1A: Temporary Shielding

Temporary Shielding will be installed in a manner that is stable and firm yet easily removable at a later date when the pandemic has ceased, and it is determined normal transactions can occur without an increased risk to the campus community.

1B: Permanent Shielding

Permanent Shielding will be installed with materials that are with the same quality as the adjacent surfaces with the intention that these will be in-place for the life of the facility. These locations are selected due to potentially high exposure rates to COVID-19 and other airborne illnesses.

The University will pursue Federal Reimbursement for cost associated with these installations. These installations will be executed through the Director of Business and Support Services at 417-255-7258.

Category 2:

Category 2 are locations on campus where less frequent contact between two individuals occur with infrequent exchange of paper documents. Shielding will only be installed at these locations if requested by the Supervisor. Cost associated with these installations will initially be provided through the institutional portion of the CARES Act, but should the use of these funds be determined ineligible for this type of expense, departments may be charged for the cost of the shield. These installations will be executed through the Director of Business and Support Services at 417-255-7258.

Category 3:

Category 3 are locations on campus where shielding will not be approved unless otherwise determined. Or it is determined that the cost outweighs the benefit of providing shielding.

*Pre-existing medical conditions could determine a category change from a 3 to a 2. Employees should contact the Office for Institutional Equity and Compliance to request a workplace accommodation as necessary.

Social Distancing Signage Guidelines

In response to COVID-19 and in conjunction with the Shielding Guidelines, the West Plains campus has developed a signage package similar to strategies currently implemented at most retail establishments in our community. The intent of this guideline is to standardize the University’s response providing as much protection to the campus community aligned with the CDC Guidelines for Social Distancing. Floor medallions will be installed at all Category 1a and 1b shield locations. A letter-sized Grizz social distancing sign can be downloaded from the link below for your use as desired.
