General squad information
The Missouri State University Grizzly Cheer Team supports Lady Grizzly Volleyball and Grizzly Basketball.
During volleyball we serve as partners with the "Grizzly Madness" Pep Club. This combined group really has a good time with the crowd and we do funny skits and cheers to generate some serious excitement!
During basketball we get the crowd fired up and really have a great time! We do floor cheers, stunting, skits, tumbling and dance routines! We have a great crowd that enjoys participating in our cheers and activities!
Do I need to register for tryouts?
It is not necessary, just show up at the open gym or clinic! You can contact Team Coordinator Rachel Peterson at 417-255-7978, Coach Nick Pruitt 573-263-8446 or Asst. Coach Keena Simpson 417-257-9465 who are also available for questions.

Yes! As of now the scholarship per year is $1,000.00 ($500.00 per semester). Shoes are provided.
There are 3 parts to tryouts.
- Part 1: Clinic
During clinic you will be evaluated on ability to work well with others, attitude, appearance, and physical fitness. This will be worth 15 points of your total tryout score.
- Part 2: Interview
The coaching staff will take time during clinic to informally discuss your goals, cheerleading experience, etc. This will be very relaxed and casual. This will be worth 20 points of your total tryout score.
- Part 3: Skills Tryout
We will have your skills tryout. It will be held at the Student Rec Center on campus. The tryouts are closed and performed in front of an impartial panel of judges which will not include the coaching staff. This will be worth 115 points.
What do I need to bring to tryouts?
Girls: White tank top, blue shorts or red shorts (no slick pants)
Boys: White t-shirt with no lettering; blue shorts or red shorts (no slick pants)
All: Tennis shoes or cheer shoes; proof of a 2.0 grade point average for graduating seniors or students transfering from another college.
At clinics prospective cheer team members will learn exactly what is required for tryouts and begin working toward trying out. Students are only required to attend one clinic date but attendance at both is preferred and strongly benefits the student.
