STAGE ONE - REOPENING PLAN EFFECTIVE

MAY 18, 2020

The West Plains Civic Center will reopen in stages to ensure social distancing and occupancy limitations.

Stage One -  May 18, Pool and Fitness Center opens.

  • Entry to the building will only be permitted through the exterior Fitness Center Doors located on the west side of the building.
  • All other exterior doors will be closed to the public. The WPCC building will not be open to the public, so access to the main portion of the building will be blocked off. If there is a need for ADA accommodations, then a staff member will assisting the patron through the building. 
  • The locker rooms, pool, and fitness center areas are the only areas open to the public during this initial stage.
  • The pool hours for the public will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-9 a.m for lap swimming and 4 p.m.-7 p.m for open swim. The diving board will not be available during stage one. Occupancy will be limited to a maximum of 25 swimmers and 10 deck patrons in the pool area to include staff. 
  • Compliance with social distancing guidelines of 6 feet will be enforced in all spaces of the civic center including the water. 
  • The fitness center will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Occupancy will be limited to a maximum 10 people in the fitness center, including staff. Some equipment will be closed to maintain social distancing. The second floor of the fitness center  will be limited to 2 patrons at a time.
  • The pool and fitness center will be closed on the weekends.
  • If we get to maximum occupancy in the pool or fitness center, a time limit of one hour per patron will be enforced.
  • We ask that patrons come prepared to use the facility to limit time in the locker rooms.  Also, there is a limit of four people at a time using the locker rooms.
  • There will be a limit of one person at a time in the hot tub with a maximum use time of 15 minutes if other patrons are waiting.  
  • The MSU-WP staff will take temperatures of those coming to use the facilities.  Anyone with a temperature of 100 or more will not be allowed to use the facility.
  • Sanitation wipe stations are available throughout the pool, fitness center and locker room areas.
  • Hand sanitizing stations are located outside the locker room doors and fitness center for guest to use when entering/exiting.
  • The Civic Center has installed foot door openers on restroom and locker room doors to help reduce hand touch on door handles between cleanings, along with hand sanitizing stations outside the civic center restrooms.
  • Signage has been posted around the building reminding customers and employees of proper hand washing and hygiene activities.
  • Staff will work diligently in keeping with the enhanced cleaning protocol, to ensure disinfecting practices are performed and social distancing guidelines are maintained.
  • Patrons will also play a valuable role in keeping our facility disinfected.  All fitness center equipment should be cleaned with a sanitation wipes before and after personal use.  Disinfected wipes should also be used to wipe down lockers before and after use, handrails of pool ladders, pool deck chairs, door handles, and any other surface that contact has been made.
  • Memberships will be extended for the amount of time members remaining on their memberships at the time of closure.

We will inform you of Stage Two, when crowd limitation numbers and facility accessibility revisions are posted, as soon as we have additional guidelines.

Membership age guidelines

  • Group Swimming – One adult is required for every 4 children under the age of 10 years.
  • Weight Room – Persons 13 years and younger are not allowed to use the equipment.
  • Hot Tub – Persons 7 to 15 years are not permitted unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children 6 years and under are not allowed in the hot tub.
  • Pool – Persons 10 and younger must be accompanied by a person 16 years or older.

Pool and fitness membership fees

Use of the pool and fitness center is free to current Missouri State University-West Plains students who have a valid BearPass ID and have paid the activity fee.
