  • Academic Concerns Committee - Cindy Smith
    • Fall appeals meeting, 1/11/2017, 9:00 AM
  • Assessment Committee - Amy Ackerson
    • Meeting 1:00 PM today; finalizing Program Review Process and HLC updates; sub-committee working on student portfolio changes/revisions
  • Budget and Priorities Committee - Ed Birdyshaw
    • Recommendation: AAUP survey data on faculty salaries will be benchmark; per-course using gross average of reported data via Chronicle of Higher Education adjunct project
    • Deadline for faculty support vote has been pushed up to today
    • Questions regarding using Springfield campus as benchmark, and recent historical trends regarding salaries in our region
    • Kip Rugett suggests motion to have per-course salaries aligned with Springfield; no action taken on this particular issue
    • Motion: Joyce Jennings-Pineda motions to vote on Budget Priorities today, Frank Priest seconded: Budget Committee benchmark recommendations: 1) Full-time faculty salaries should be benchmarked to AAUP data for associates with ranks, without adjustment, from the West North Central region; 2)Per-course faculty pay should be benchmarked to the gross average of reported pay according to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Adjunct Project, for instructors at two-year schools operating within a four-year school system.

  • Curriculum Committee - Joyce Jennings-Pineda/Melinda Denton
    • Progress and info posted on Experts; all committee updates can be found there
    • Proposals have been given to Faculty Senate (FS) chair; if no objection these will pass
    • Deadline today @ 5:00 PM for consideration in next meeting
  • Faculty Evaluations Committee - Craig Albin
    • Evaluations began Nov. 3; Dr. Albin met with division chairs and deans to smooth Divisional Personnel Committee (DPC)/ Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure (RPT) process, with goal to meld RPT and Appraisal and Development Plan (ADP) processes/timelines and make opportunities for feedback more effective
    • The goal is to make the process more efficient and effective
    • Reminder to members: suggestions of times to meet next week with Jerry Trick to continue this discussion
    • Several faculty inquired about merit pay, its availability, the history of merit pay at the institution, etc.
  • Faculty Handbook Committee - Kip Rugutt
    • Information is forthcoming to committee members, meet after Thanksgiving Break
  • Library Advisory Committee - Sylvia Kuhlmeier
    • No update
  • Public Affairs - Gary Phillips
    • No update, Gary not in attendance due to health reasons
  • Student Advisement Committee - Jerry Trick
    • Met on 11/3, information posted soon
    • Highlights: Cindy Bridges updated on the new office of academic support center, led by Michelle Branton; our campus does not now have director of developmental education position, as Ms. Branton has changed position; ACCESS is responsible for STAR, veteran services, test services; Degree Works to go live in Spring; tutoring now under Dr. Orf’s leadership; there is a registration override option for faculty for their courses; meeting later in Spring semester
  • Institutional Analysis Committee - Kathy Morrison/Joyce Jennings-Pineda
    • Now a dynamic model of budgeting going forward; Board of Governors now more aware of the unique characteristics of Missouri State-West Plains vis-à-vis Springfield, a dialogue has begun; Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has requested budget priorities match our mission; request for equity funding (given to all MO community colleges) from legislature
    • Institutional Analysis Committee (IAC) put forth budget proposal on 11/2; presented to chancellor, working to get it implemented; this would change us from static budget allocation to a more open, dynamic, integrative budget process across departments/divisions
    • Asking for vote of endorsement for this proposal at Dec. Faculty Senate meeting
    • Urges all faculty to attend Executive Budget Committee meeting; next one is 11/18
  • Service Learning Committee - Cathy Proffitt Boys
    • Not in attendance; email correspondence, 10/13 met and proposal submitted to Curriculum Committee coming soon
  • International Issues Committee - Rajiv Thakur
    • Working on Global Studies program for Curriculum Committee

Announcements:

  • Salvation Army Bell Ringing Day will be Monday Dec. 19th – sign-up sheets will be available after Thanksgiving Break.

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI)'s revised
  • Appraisal and Development Plan (ADP) process has started
  • New copier in Lybyer faculty suite has been ordered. ETA five to seven weeks.
  • November Friends of the Garnett Library Meeting and Luncheon. "Making Connections" will be the topic of the program brought by Mary Kellum, coordinator of the federally-funded TRIO student support services. $10 cost for lunch; no charge for program only.

  • The annual Musical Salute to Veterans program is Friday, November 11, at 1 p.m. in the West Plains Civic Center Theater. This is also a free event.
  • Benefits open enrollment. One month left to complete HRA (save $360 a year in insurance premium), make benefit changes, or enroll in cafeteria plan (needs to be completed each year of participation – not automatic renewal).
  • Bulk Mailing Reminder: If you are planning a bulk mailing, please send intent to Alyssa Collins so she will know what budget to charge when the bill comes from the post office.
  • Rajiv Thakur was elected chair of the "Association of American Geographers – West Lakes Division" at the Annual Meeting of the Division at Marquette, MI's Northern Michigan University on Oct 15, 2016.
  • Next Executive Budget Committee Meeting scheduled for Nov 18 at 2:00 PM, T208.
  • Head of the library reminds faculty to request books.
  • Must consider faculty chair-elect for AY 2018-2019
  • Bridges program through West Plains High School (provides resources to struggling students) contacted Missouri State-West Plains to collect supplies for this program; the Nursing department is filling 20 shoeboxes for students to contribute to Bridges program and are in need of food or hygiene-related donations. Please contact Renee Moore for more information.

Dean's Update:

  • Any questions regarding budget process, dean’s office happy to answer/clarify/elaborate/etc.
  • Discussion of division/faculty budget priorities and related deadlines
  • Will begin curriculum development workflow process; Jill Stevens and Kris Brinkerhoff played key roles; will go into effect in Fall 2017
  • Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure (RPT) process: working with the Faculty Evaluation Committee to make this a simpler and more efficient process; attempt to meld together – the Board of Governors' required calendar year evaluations and the RPT academic year evaluation process
  • Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) forming advisory committee concerning general education classes and ensuring transfer credits; requesting pool of faculty to serve in an advisory role – if you would like to serve in this capacity, please let the dean know
  • 2010 federal law regarding textbook affordability; requires publishers to disclose textbook information to faculty and getting textbook information to students during registration; for Spring schedule, due June 15, for Summer/Fall Dec. 15, textbook information is due when schedule is due, will begin with June 2017 deadline
