Orientation for Freshmen and Transfer Students
WPO 5.11 Orientation for Freshmen and Transfer Students (Op5.18)
Freshmen*
First-time freshmen are required to attend a "STudent Orientation, Advisement and Registration" (STAR) program. Three types of STAR orientations are provided:
- On-campus sessions – sessions are offered on several dates for summer/fall or spring admission terms
- Zoom video conferencing session – offered on several dates for summer/fall or spring admission terms.
- Online sessions – offered through the university’s Brightspace learning management system.
Transfer students
Transfer students with less than 10 transferable credit hours completed subsequent to graduation from high school are required to complete a STAR session. All new transfer students, regardless of the number of hours completed, must have an advisor's release prior to registering.
* Students are classified as freshmen, for registration purposes, if they enter having completed fewer than 24 transferable college credit hours subsequent to graduation from high school and are required to attend STAR.
Exceptions to the above policy must be approved by the Coordinator of Advising and Academic Support.
Questions regarding STAR may be directed to the Coordinator of Advising and Academic Support via mail at Hass Darr Hall 101, 128 Garfield Ave, West Plains, MO 65775, or phone 417-255-7222 or email at WPAdvising@missouristate.edu
