Future Plans: I plan to graduate with my associate's in the spring of 2019. I then plan to finish out my degree for early childhood education. I hope to then teach between kindergarten and third grade.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because at the time I was attending a larger four-year institution and was ready for a change. Missouri State University-West Plains was an affordable option at home that provided me with what I needed.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I genuinely didn’t know very much about Missouri State University-West Plains until I got started here. Then I was quickly impressed by all of the opportunities we have to get involved here.

Advice/ Tips:

My advice to prospective students would be to get involved. It makes the campus go from a place for classes to a home.

Future Plans: I plan to transfer to a four-year university, but I have not yet decided on a major. I am considering hospitality management or education.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

Missouri State University-West Plains is a very welcoming atmosphere and has been an awesome transition from secondary to post-secondary education.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I did not know that 97% of students receive financial aid.

Advice/ Tips: 

You should get involved in something to create a more stress-free college environment, this will also help with academics.

Future Plans: I plan to graduate with my associate's in elementary education, then either stay here at Missouri State University-West Plains to get my bachelor’s in elementary education or transfer to Drury to get my bachelor’s there.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains not only because it was close to home, but because of the small class sizes.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I did not know about Missouri State Outreach that offers bachelor's and master's courses on the West Plains campus.

Advice/Tips: 

Some tips I would give to prospective students would be to make at least one new friend in each class you have. You never know when you’ll make a lifelong best friend.

Future Plans: I plan on graduating with my associates in nursing. After that I wish to work in the OB or ER before starting my bachelor’s degree.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because I wanted to stay close to home, but still receive the college experience. I love the small class sizes as well.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I did not know about the free tutor services that were offered and how great they are.

Advice/Tips: 

About me: I can graduate from Missouri State University-West Plains with an RN degree.

Tip: Become a member of an organization while you are here. It’s a great way to meet new people and adjust to college.

Future Plans: Getting into the Nursing program, then work on my bachelor’s while traveling.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

They have a great Nursing program and small classes.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I did not know how helpful everyone was on campus and how much tutoring is offered.

Advice/Tips: 

All my dual-credit classes transferred, which was extremely helpful! When you get here get involved and don’t be afraid to talk to everyone!

Future Plans: I plan to graduate Missouri State University-West Plains with an Associate of Arts in General Studies degree. Next, I will transfer to University of Missouri-Columbia to receive my bachelor’s degree. Following that I will go to law school.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

Missouri State University-West Plains was close to home, I knew that FASFA would cover all of my costs, and because it is a smaller campus I felt like I would have a better chance to be involved in certain clubs and organizations.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I didn’t know how nice the professors are, how little homework I would receive and that Missouri State University-West Plains and Missouri State University-Springfield were sister campuses.

Advice/Tips:

My credits will easily transfer over to University of Missouri-Columbia.

My tips to prospective students would be to keep your syllabi, everything for that class is on it. Also be friendly, you’ll make new friends and college will be a lot more fun that way.

Future Plans: I plan on majoring in business marketing, then someday starting/selling different businesses that help support human trafficking prevention, orphans and widows.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because it would allow me to stay in my hometown, spend time with my family and give me opportunities to help show students what I love about West Plains.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I thought I’d have more classes with West Plains graduates. I didn’t know anything about the campus.

Advice/Tips:

I would tell a prospective student to get plugged in to the community. Go to a gym, church or anywhere you can meet new people. I have lived in five different towns and West Plains is my favorite because of the people!

Advice/Tips: 

Take advantage of your resources! Free tutoring, the library and your instructors are great resources to help you succeed!

Future Plans: I plan to get my associate of arts degree here, then transfer to Springfield and get my master’s in psychology. I hope to work with kids that have special needs, such as Autism and coping with social situations and possibly assigning service animals.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I had many opportunities to receive A+ along with many scholarships. Most importantly the ability for me to get involved on campus and have a family vibe with the staff and other students.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I can study abroad in China!

Advice/Tips: 

Get involved on campus, join clubs and look for social scholarships like SGA or the Ambassador program. Look at work study options. Make sure our credits transfer, they all transfer to Missouri State University-Springfield.

Future Plans: I plan to get my degree in early childhood education to become a preschool teacher.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because when I took a tour of campus it felt like home. Also, because coming to Missouri State University-West Plains was financially the best decision for me.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I did not know that Missouri State University-West Plains was a four year degree plan for me. Meaning, I can complete all four years of my degree on this campus.

Advice/Tips:

When I came to school here the only person I knew was my roommate, we graduated together. Now, after attending school for a year I have made a lifelong best friend that is now my roommate. As well as multiple other friends that will be in my life forever. College is where you make friends that last a life time.

I liked how small it was and how nice everyone is. I also am really interested in the China, study abroad program.

That college isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Advice/Tips: 

Get involved and don’t be afraid to talk to your professors and go to tutoring.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

It is close to home and a very good price.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I didn’t realize how nice this campus really is.

Advice/Tips: 

All my credits here will transfer to the Missouri State-Springfield campus. Classes are an average of 17 people, so there is more one-on-one time with professors. There is also tutoring for multiple subjects this is flexible and free.

It’s a home away from home. My friends and my professors are like family.

How much the community cares about the university!

Advice/Tips: 

Be open and involved. College is a time and place for you to discover yourself and others. Get out there and attend events. The friendlier you are the more friends you will have.

How nice the campus was and how friendly everyone is.

Advice/Tips: 

Get involved on campus, get to know people. Once you get to know people college gets better. All of my credits I took while in high school count towards my degree.

Future Plans: I am currently working on my bachelor’s in psychology and then I plan to work in that field, while also working on my master’s degree. My master’s degree is undecided.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because it is in my hometown and I can get my bachelor’s degree through Missouri State Outreach. I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because I have always wanted to be on the Grizzly Cheer Team.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

That they offer some master's degrees here through Missouri State Outreach!

Advice/Tips: 

Participate in welcome week! Definitely get involved in something. Check your email and use it. Don’t be afraid to make friends with strangers, they could be a lifelong friend.

Future Plans: I plan to transfer to a four-year university. I’m not sure where at or what I want to major in, but I plan on deciding within the next two years. I intend that whatever career I choose will be purposeful and fulfilling to my life.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains for numerous reasons, including the tuition cost, the availability of multiple scholarships, the opportunity to become a leader on campus, and the reassurance of having two years to find the passion and interests I want to pursue at a four-year school.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I did not know about all the different job opportunities on campus. They help you to become more involved at the school, your bosses are flexible since they know you’re a college student and the job can pertain to your intended major and/or interests and you can get experience in your future job field.

Advice/Tips: 

All the students, faculty and staff at Missouri State University-West Plains want you to accomplish your goals! The staff here are so friendly and will happily go the extra mile to make sure your needs are met. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people with which to start my first year of college.

Future Plans: Graduate from Missouri State University-West Plains with an Associate of Science in Agriculture, then transfer to Missouri State University-Springfield to earn a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business with an emphasis in Sales.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains became after touring several other schools I felt that I was most comfortable and had a sense of “being at home” when I toured this campus. The school offered all the classes and the degree that I would find in a large school, but in a small scale campus, which helped me feel more comfortable and less overwhelmed.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I didn’t know that Missouri State University-West Plains has access to bachelor’s degree programs on campus through Missouri State Outreach.

Advice/Tips: 

The best advice I could give would be to get involved and make the most of time here. Get to know your roommate and your suitemates, there is so much to learn from them and you might meet a lifelong friend. Get to know the professors they have a lot of knowledge to share that can help you.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because I love everything about it. The size, people and especially the location.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I did not know about all of the services that are offered to students. My favorite is the tutoring labs.

Advice/Tips: 

I do plan to transfer to Springfield after I complete my associate's degree. I would highly recommend being involved, it has helped me create amazing friendships.

Future Plans: I will be transferring to Missouri State-Springfield to get my bachelor’s degree in psychology. I will transfer again, but not sure where yet, and ultimately receive my PhD in psychology with a minor in either forensics or criminology.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

This school is a good transition school for me. I graduated with sixty people, so Missouri State University-West Plains, being the size that it is, is perfect for getting used to a larger campus. It’s also super close to home.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I didn’t realize how much of a home West Plains would become.

Advice/Tips: 

Get to know what class style works for you. Online, seated, hybrid, lecture style, there’s a type of class that works for everyone. Figure out what you will do best in.

Future Plans: My plans are to become a teacher. I will be attending Missouri State-West Plains for two years and then transferring to Missouri State-Springfield to complete my degree.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

I chose Missouri State-West Plains because it is one out of four colleges in the state of Missouri that has the A+ program that also has dorms.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I was unfamiliar with the interesting history of the campus. For example, the Bell Tower.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

Before becoming a student at Missouri State University-West Plains I didn’t know that the cafeteria in the Grizzly Lofts was an actual restaurant.

Advice/Tips: 

Be sure to get involved around campus with the different clubs and events offered. Also it is great to make friends with classmates, and form study groups with your class mates.

I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because I wanted to use my A+ and I have a very large family that lives in West Plains so I didn’t want to miss out on things.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

I didn’t know we have don’t have classes on Friday’s which is super cool.

Advice/Tips: 

The class size is small which I personally love. Make friends with your professors, it makes things much easier.

All of the student jobs on campus.

Advice/Tips: 

If you live in the lofts, know who is on your floor, then you can always see a friendly face. Also, if you know your degree you want to take classes by checking the degree catalog.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

That they offer a free tutoring lab during most of the week.

Advice/Tips: 

Don’t be afraid of college. Focus on your work firsthand and everything will fall into place.

Why I chose Missouri State-West Plains:

Because they were a smaller campus, they accepted my A+ and so I could continue my cheerleading career.

What I didn't know about Missouri State-West Plains before becoming a student:

At first I didn’t even know about this college then when I heard about it and looked into it, I knew it was the best fit for me. There is a great seamless transfer to Springfield, being able to cheer here, having a great relationship with your roommate and suitemates.

Advice/ Tips: 

A tip to students is to make friends and get to know people.
