International Students

International students from around the world are encouraged to apply to Missouri State University-West Plains.  This school is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students.

Interested international students should contact the office of admissions to request application materials.  The priority deadlines for submitting applications are May 1 for the fall semester, October 1 for the spring semester and March 15 for the summer session.  Applications and all documents required for admission must be received no later than August 1 for the fall semester, December 1 for the spring semester and May 15 for the summer session. International students must have completed a secondary program comparable to U.S. high school graduation, and have academic records demonstrating comparable achievement. Original language and English translation of official transcripts and proof of degrees, diplomas and certificates from all previous institutions attended must be on file with the office of admissions.

International students are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language.  The English language requirement will be met when the applicant has submitted proof of a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) internet-based score of 61 or more; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.5 or more; Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 44 or more; Duolingo score of 95 or higher; or completion of Level 5 at Missouri State University’s English Language Institute (ELI) program. Students who do not demonstrate proficiency as indicated may be evaluated individually if extenuating circumstances exist.

International applicants must provide documentation of adequate financial resources to meet expenses including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room and board, health insurance, taxes and miscellaneous personal expenses. It is the University’s policy that all international students with an F-1 visa status are required to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Students will be billed by the University for the applicable rate upon registration for classes each semester.
