The Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program consists of two academic years and is a competitively ranked program. Admission to the program is by application and based on an objective ranking score and committee selection (see Ranking Score Computation). The program course requirements are shown below.
The MSU-West Plains ASN program offers a spring semester program starting in January and a fall semester program starting in August. The initial deadline for the spring program is September 1st. The deadline for the fall program is February 1st.
To be considered for acceptance into the nursing program, your applicant file must contain all required documentation, including transcripts and test scores, by the appropriate program application deadline. You must also meet all of the required admissions criteria. Start your application process early so you will receive the proper advisement. Students who successfully complete the program will obtain an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree and are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The 66-hour nursing degree program consists of courses in liberal arts, science and nursing. The nursing courses include lecture and on-campus simulation laboratory experiences, along with relevant clinical practicums provided at health care facilities located in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.

Associate of Science in Nursing Curriculum (Regular Track)
Nursing Program Application Eligibility Prerequisite Course - BMS 110
BMS 110-Introduction to Biomedical Sciences: Must be completed with a 'C' grade or better by the appropriate nursing program application deadline unless they have completed an equivalent course at another institution or BMS 267 Human Anatomy or an equivalent course such as A&P 1 with a “C” grade or higher.
MTH 130 or higher eligibility must be established by the program start. Eligibility is established through a math placement test score or completion of MTH 103 Intermediate Algebra or an equivalent course, with a 'C' grade or better or lower level math courses as required to bring you to MTH 130 or higher eligibility. Placement scores must be received by the application deadline or proof of in-progress coursework that will give the applicant MTH 130 or higher eligibility by the program start must be provided such as an in-progress transcript.
ENG 110-English Writing I eligibility must be established by the application deadline and English 110 or its equivalent must be completed by the program start. At MSU-West Plains, eligibility is established through the English Self-Directed Placement Survey and an reading placement exam score of 18 or higher on the ACT, 81 or higher on the COMPASS, 85 or higher on the ACCUPLACER, or 256 or higher on the Next Generation placement exam.
